All of this week's new movie reviews

Veronica Mars (2014)

Turning a TV series into a movie is harder and more tricky than it may sound, no matter how popular and well liked the series is/was. A movie is something totally different from a TV series episode, in which things are structured and layered differently and you have to take into account that you also need to appeal to a whole new- and much broader audience, who aren't all familiar with the TV series which the particular movie is based on. So how does this movie manage? It does a pretty good job, though in the long run this movie really isn't more than just another detective movie in my opinion. Read more>

Dead on Appraisal (2014)

Man, I just don't know what to say about this movie. Is it even a movie? It's some real random and nonsensical horror anthology stuff, made on a shoestring budget. But you know what? It was strangely captivating and in a weird way I was even kind of liking the movie at parts. Read more>

The Impaler (2013)

This sounds like a decent enough movie. I mean, how can a movie featuring Vlad the Impaler/Dracula be a bad or boring one right? Well, this movie actually nevertheless still manages to be a both bad and boring one. Read more>

Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery (2014) (V)

To start off with; I'm not a big Scooby-Doo fan and never have been either. Weak and cheap looking animations, boring characters, unfunny moments and each episode was basically always more or less the same. Scooby-Doo of course has continued to develop throughout the years and I must say I was liking this 'modern' cartoon way better than any of the old classic ones. Read more>

Need for Speed (2014)

Movies like this are of course never critic proof and there also is plenty to complain about but personally, I don't feel like complaining too much. Of course it's not a great movie but it at least brings some entertainment and does a good job pleasing its target audience. Read more>

Snake and Mongoose (2013)

Here is a race movie that most definitely won't get your adrenaline pumping! Read more>

The Grim Sleeper (2014)

These sort of made for TV. based on true stories, type of movies never raise expectations but this one is actually pretty good and solid for what it is. Read more>

Xi you ji: Da nao tian gong (2014)

Still somewhat in doubt about this movie. On the one hand I was really liking it but at the same time it's obviously a far from great movie, that's filled with tons of missed opportunities and isn't half as good, epic and spectacular as it so easily could- and maybe even should have been. Sparks (2013)

It's an admirable thing that in this modern day and age of already established superhero movie franchises there are still film-makers out there who are trying to do something new and differently, with a completely unknown superhero and 'universe'. It's all the more admirable, considering the budget of the movie. Won't say that this is a great movie or a true must-see but it's a pretty good, fresh and enjoyable, superhero entry. Read more>

I Am Soldier (2014)

This may look and sound like yet another cheap and lame action flick but it's actually something totally different and surprisingly effective as well! Read more>
