The Devil's Dozen (2013) Directed by Jeremy London

Unbelievable! 9 years later and they are still doing "Saw" ripoffs.

So here we have yet another movie about a bunch of people who are all stuck in the same room together. It turns out that all of them have some bad history and they are forced to kill each other until there is one person left standing. Still probably sounds awesome and interesting to you but let me just tell you that there is absolutely nothing spectacular, tense, surprising, original or interesting about this movie.

First of all; there are far too many characters in it and each of them has far too much dialog as well. This especially becomes a big problem at the start of the movie when everybody is still alive and every single character is given far too much dialog that goes something to the extent of; 'What are we doing here?' 'Why are you doing this?' 'Why is this happening?' 'Just let us go!' 'I can't handle this' and 'this is insane!'. Seriously, that's how all of the characters spend the first few minutes of the movie talking, which is soon becoming something incredible tiresome and annoying to have to watch and hear. Besides, because there are so many characters in this movie, none of them ever gets developed that well. It's hard to care about any of the characters in this, since you just don't know anything about them, other than they presumable have done some bad things in their lives. It doesn't help much that most of the actors are absolutely terrible in this.

But hold on! There is a twist toward the end as well, in which it gets revealed why and how all of the characters ended up in the same room together. Unfortunalty it's not a very good or likely surprise and twist. It's even the type of twist that probably is going to anger a whole bunch of people.

The main story also really isn't anything solid enough. Instead of trying to find a solution, or a way out of things, all the characters do is argue about who should die next. Really, that's basically all this movie ever does, which again, is making this movie too much of a both repetitive and tiresome one. I genuinely do believe this movie still had some potential but it all went to waste, due to its lacking execution and uninteresting approach.

It's not the worst thing you'll ever see but it still really isn't worth watching either!

Revelation Road 2: The Sea of Glass and Fire (2013) Directed by Gabriel Sabloff

It apparently only have been a couple of months since I had seen the first installment "Revelation Road: The Beginning of the End" but I basically remember very little about it. But whatever that first movie must have done wrong, this one got right, since I actually quite liked and enjoyed watching this movie, despite of its religious themes and propaganda.

Whether you are a Christian or not, you have to admit that most faith based movies just aren't very good ones. They are cheap looking, with most of the time some bad acting and predictable story lines in it. And while this is not a great movie by any means, it at least is a pretty good looking and well made one, that also offers plenty of excitement and surprises in it.

It's not like this movie features or very solid or engaging main plot in it though. As a matter of fact; that's the one main thing lacking from this movie. I don't really know what the main character is trying to do or achieve and I don't really know or understand who all of these other people are and what their story is exactly. It's never really clear what the main goal of this movie is supposed to be, other than 'spreading the word of God' and be religious propaganda.

One of the things that also always bother me about movies dealing with the rapture is that there never is a sense of panic or despair in any of them. People instead seem to be happy and treat it like the most glorious thing that ever happened to them, even though God 'took away' a lot of their loved ones. Life simply goes on, which is also one of the reasons why I liked the movie "Rapture-Palooza" so much. It poked perfect fun at all of this.

But really, out of all the faith based movies that I have seen thus far, this probably is the best one. It's a quality movie that look at, that never bores with anything or starts to drag due to all of its religious themes. It isn't all preachy in a preachy kind of way, which makes this movie definitely less annoying to watch than most other religious movies out there. It's not really necessary for you to be a believer, in order to enjoy watching this movie, though it of course helps if you are a Christian already.

Really don't think that this movie is going to convert anyone to Christianity but I sincerely do believe that Christians themselves will really enjoy watching this movie, as will some non-believers, since it isn't constantly all in your face with its religious themes.

A Talking Cat!?! (2013) Directed by David DeCoteau

OK so this movie is bad but lets put things in perspective here. It's only just a tad bit more worse than most other average taking animal movies out there.

99% of all talking animal movies are bad and annoying ones (that 1% of good movies is "Babe"), since they all imply that animals can think like humans and also have all of the exact same needs and desires. Well, that's only one reason why they are bad and annoying movies to watch but to me that's always the most annoying aspect about these type of movies. This movie is no exception, other than the fact that this is hardly a talking animal movie really. I mean, sure there is a talking cat in this but it just never feels like its the central point of the movie. It's merely a storytelling device to help the story move forward at certain points but it in no way is the main character of this movie and I actually even believe that this movie easily could have done without him.

Even the cat itself looks bored, all throughout. He besides constantly looks pissed off and annoyed by the whole situation and I wouldn't be surprised if it just was a random cat from one of the producers, who wanted to see his/her cat in a movie. No way that this was a trained cat, who had done any movies/TV series or commercials before. Besides, he looked a bit too on the chubby and old side, making it not the most appealing or cute cat to look at. The cat on the cover looks kind of nice but unfortunately it's a completely different cat from the one that's in the movie...I also really can't say that Eric Roberts was a good choice to voice the cat. His voice really didn't fit the part and he besides put very little effort into it. Sounded like he was just reading off a piece of paper and the sound quality was absolutely terrible as well. It clearly wasn't recorded in a professional or even semi-professional recording studio. It most likely simply got recorded inside an empty random room, or possibly even at Eric Roberts own home.

But really, the cat hardly is the worst aspect about this movie and no, neither are the 'special effects' used to appear the illusion of talking. It obviously has a very simple main plot line but what is especially bad about the movie and its writing is the way how it handles its characters. It's actually quite confusing to be honest. At times I really didn't know who I was supposed to like and dislike in this movie. Who were supposed to be the 'good' and 'bad' guys so to speak. Every time I thought I was sure someone was a person that I was supposed to root for and care about, that person would start doing something incredibly hateful or just plain stupid. It keeps doing random and silly stuff with its characters, that keeps on changing their personalities and the way you look at them, making this far from the most consistent movie out there.

And well, other than that; there isn't much to say about its story really. I can see what it was trying to do but it feels all over the place , which often results in some incredibly random and painful to watch sequences, that serve absolutely no purpose to the story at all. It was trying to be a cute family movie, in which its different characters met and started to move closer toward each other, by helping each other out, with all of their different 'problems' and other issues.

Just like everything else, the acting was quite bad in this, though to be fair, that also had a lot to do with its poor writing. It has some absolutely terrible dialog and I really don't know where this movie its comedy was supposed to come from. Perhaps that's why the movie is so incredibly random at times; all of those random moments got put in there in an attempt to get a laugh or two but the only laughs you're going to get out of this movie are unintentional ones. You'll most likely laugh at how silly and bad this movie can get at times but other than that, this just isn't a very funny, cute or entertaining movie to watch.

Another thing worth mentioning is its absolutely atrocious musical score! Man, whoever did it should be forced to watch this movie in a continuous loop, "A Clockwork Orange"-style.

Well, to be fair, I have seen worse, far more worse, movies, believe it or not. It doesn't make this movie a good one but it's still the reason why I'm also still being somewhat 'mild' with my rating of it. It's an absolutely terrible movie but at least they were still trying to make this a somewhat watchable and amusing one, unlike some other terrible movies that I have seen.

Also look out for David DeCoteau's other upcoming movies "A Talking Pony!?!" and "My Stepbrother Is a Vampire!?!" (no joke).

Amazing Racer (2013) Directed by Frank E. Johnson

Eric Roberts, Louis Gossett Jr., Michael Madsen, Steve Guttenberg, all in one movie? That should set off a few alarm bells!

The movie as it turned out is also quite a bad one. It has a TV like quality to it but what is worse is that it handles its story and drama extremely poorly.

Instead of a movie that's focusing on a young girl trying to cope with the loss of her father and who's trying to bond with the mother, that she never knew she had, the movie decides to focus on horse racing. Yep, forget about any of the drama and emotions, this movie seems to believe that horse racing is far more important- and interesting to watch instead. It's quite ludicrous how this movie slowly starts to shift and stops being one about real life emotions and issues. Not that the movie was great before that but I at least still was interested in seeing where it would be taking its story to and how its characters would continue to grow and develop.

What's all the more ridicules about the movie its concept is that we, as the viewers, are supposed to believe that this girl, who doesn't like horses at all, suddenly starts to have a very strong bond and connection with one particular horse and not only that, she turns out to be an amazing horse racer as well. This movie its second half more feels like a girly fantasy tale, instead of an effective, 'real life', drama, as this movie was originally clearly intended to be. It besides doesn't ever play out in an original and surprising enough way. The movie is an extremely predictable one, from start to finish, in which everything is very black & white. It even has a ridiculously evil James Bond-type of villain in it, played by Eric Roberts.

There is never a good buildup to anything. Not to the drama, not to the romance, not to any of the characters. This is probably also due to the fact that the movie is trying to do a bit too much at times. It has far too many needless distractions in its story and far too many characters as well. The amount of characters actually makes this movie a quite confusing one to watch at times, also since the movie doesn't give all of them enough back-story, so you never know what they are all about and why they are supposedly important for the story.

And in case you are wondering whatever happened to Dean Cundey, the man who was the director of photography on a lot of classic Spielberg, Zemeckis and Carpenter movies in the past, well, he's mostly doing movies such as this nowadays. Such a waste and weird to see how some amazing and promising careers just fizzle out. Not that I'm a big Cundey fan but he deserves to work on better movies than this! It's like letting da Vinci do a Bob Ross type of painting.

I just can't see how anyone could ever enjoy- and be taken by a movie such as this one.

White T (2013) Directed by Lance Frank

Normally these sort of movies can still make me laugh, no matter how bad and childish they are with all of its comedy. This movie...well, it's just a plain bad one!

All of the main characters in this movie are extremely obese, so of course the movie has a ton of fat and food jokes in it. Unfortunately that's about all this movie has to offer, so it's definitely a bit too much of an one note movie. Besides, nothing funny about using such a serious and big (no pun intended) problem as obesity, to get a few cheap laughs, like it's no big or serious issue at all.

At the start, the movie still makes some attempts to follow a plot but as the movie progresses it becomes more and more confusing and muddled. For most part, this movie isn't really following a main plot line and when it does, it too often doesn't make any logical sense. Even too much for a comedy of this sort. It believes that silly and nonsensical equals funny but the film-makers obviously still have a lot to learn about comedy.

Worst thing that could happen to any sort of comedy, is when it fails to be funny. It completely ruins the movie and destroys any sort of potential it still had in it. No matter how good the actors are, when the material is weak, your movie just isn't going to be funny. And that's definitely the case with this movie, with still as a difference that the actors in this movie aren't all that great either.

Highlights of these sort of comedies often are its cameos but even in this movie that's a bit of a disappointing and weak aspect. Eric Roberts is mostly annoying with his fake, lame accent and Tommy 'Tiny' Lister probably was the only remotely funny thing about this movie and he was only in it for like 30 seconds.

Good thing about the movie is that it never annoyed or angered me, so I'm not totally hating on it, or calling it a completely unwatchable one. It just happens to be so that it manages to get absolutely nothing right, which is making this a terribly ineffective comedy.

Assault on Wall Street (2013) Directed by Uwe Boll

An action flick based around the financial crisis? Sure, leave it up to Uwe Boll to come up with a thing like that!

This is an Uwe Boll movie, so lots of people are going to jump on it, regardless of its quality or intentions. But in all fairness and objectivity, is it truly a bad movie? It's a pretty dumb and maybe even borderline offensive movie but it most certainly is far from a terrible movie as well!

It's a pretty ridicules movie but no more than most other low budget genre flicks. The only main downside of the movie is that it's made hard at times to get behind the movie its main character. After all, he goes on a violent streak against bankers, who no doubt all had normal lives outside of their work and a wife and kids back at home. Seems maybe like Uwe Boll has a personal beef against the financial world or perhaps has lost lots of money during the crisis and with this movie he is venting his anger or living his fantasy, of wanting to seriously hurt those who are responsible for the situation, in his eyes and mind. The movie tries to justify things by portraying the bankers as James Bond type of villains but it's not really something that works out very convincing.

Or perhaps you should simply see this movie as a modern exploitation flick, that uses a much talked about and still relevant subject, lots of people can recognize themselves in and have a strong opinion about. And perhaps that's also the best way to look at this movie. Fore if most definitely isn't ever going for a too realistic approach with its story or violence either. You also don't feel that the movie is trying to make a true statement against anything or has a deeper sort of meaning to it.

Another silly thing about the story is that basically every sequences involves something that's related to the financial crisis. Every 'good' character gets hit by the crisis and every 'bad' character makes sure they get hit even harder, once they start to get up again. Seriously, everything about this movie feels heavily exaggerated and there's nothing too realistic or convincing about its main story, which to me is another indication not to take this movie too seriously either.

But in all truth, this movie just never becomes a truly bad one. It actually has a pleasant feel and pace to it. Sure, it doesn't begin violent or action packed and the movie takes its time to set its story and characters up at first but still the movie never drags or becomes a boring one. You also don't feel that the action enters the movie too late. The buildup to it is pretty good and effective, so it never feels like you are watching a slow or boring movie here. So yes, I actually have to say that Uwe Boll did some good things with his directing of this movie, as weird and as improbable that may sound.

I also liked some of the acting. Dominic Purcell perhaps isn't all that great, especially not when he is required to have and show emotions but other actors such as John Heard, Eric Roberts, Edward Furlong and Keith David are pretty good and enjoyable in this.

It's a good enough movie but obviously also nothing more than that. Just give this movie a fair shot. You actually could end up liking it.

Stealing Las Vegas (2012) Directed by Francisco Menéndez

Can't believe that after 11 years they are still doing some "Ocean's Eleven" knockoffs. This movie is trying to copy its style and characters but it fails miserably.

Biggest problem with the movie is that it tries to pass itself off as a fun one, without ever doing anything fun at all. Really, this movie just isn't entertaining to watch and nothing good or clever ever truly happens in it.

The movie never really flows well, also because it has far too many distractions in its story, that ultimately have absolutely nothing to do with its main plot. It tries to give all of its characters some backgrounds and reasons as to why they are involved with the casino heist but the reason are all quite weak to be honest, which was also a reason why I just couldn't ever really care for any of its characters. No matter how you look at it, they all commit a serious crime, just for some money. It makes them all criminals of course and some not so very likable ones really.

Also the heist itself...holy cow! It's needlessly complicated, up to a point that it doesn't even really make sense. Really, basically all of the characters involved go through some extra needless trouble, which really turns the heist into another disappointing and failed aspect about this movie. It's completely ridicules and of course also extremely unlikely all. Even if you still are with the movie for the most part of it, you'll definitely still give up on it once its heist starts to commence and slowly but steadily starts to evolve into something more and more unlikely and ridicules. This would had been fine if it helped to make the movie more entertaining but it really doesn't, since the movie has absolutely no idea how to do some fun scenes, with some witty dialog and likable characters involved.

If I still would have to name one positive thing about this movie it would have to be Eric Roberts. Seriously, even though he mostly stars in bad movies, he himself has never been a bad actor really. And he's also the most enjoyable thing about this movie, even though they never gave him enough to do really. He's the main 'villain', that's snarling a lot but actually does very little evil or despicable stuff really and when he does, it feels out of character for him.

Just do yourself a favor and never watch this movie.
